You will be asked to do tasks not specified on your job description; therefore, FLEXIBILITY is a must. For the success of Googols of Learning, all staff must work together and bond to create a cohesive unit. Please help where help is needed whether it is specifically your job or not.

Status: Hourly

Department: Googols of Learning Child Development Center

Location: Lawrence

Reports to: Management Team


Summary: Provide an educationally enriching and stimulating environment where experiences are designed to develop self-esteem and positive self-image, social interaction, self-expression and communication skills, creative expression, and intellectual growth.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Curriculum:

  1. Plan and prepare classroom setting. Meet KDHE and KQRIS standards, post PBS visual schedules, have labels on shelves and buckets so children know where things go.

  2. Provide a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors. Utilize scaffolding and appropriate motivational strategies including positive reinforcement when playing with children.

  3. Create weekly lesson plans that follow the Kansas Early Learning Standards and tie in with the Creative Curriculum, as well as provide children with practices that are developmentally appropriate.

  4. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate weekly lesson plans and organize activities and opportunities to encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving, appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of the children.

  5. Plan activities that support the Step It Up or Healthy Sprouts programs, including gardening and cooking in the classroom at least twice monthly. Encourage all children and families to follow a healthy, nutritious lifestyle.

  6. Keep organized and detailed progress reports and observations on each child enrolled in your classroom in order to accurately assess children and share findings with parents during conferences.


Communication:

  1. Interact with parents, maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child’s family relationships. Know parent’s names and greet them by name whenever they enter the classroom. Produce monthly newsletters or delegate duty to an assistant who does so. Submit newsletter by first working day of the month for administrative approval before distributing or posting and email digital copy to Amy for website.

  2. Communicate with children in a firm, loving, and consistent manner appropriate to the age of the child.

  3. Watch for signs of emotional or developmental behaviors in children and bring them to the attention of parents and/or seek out assistance from community resources.

  4. Communicate openly and often with Management Team to ensure a successful relationship with center families. Check center email frequently (currently googolsteachers@gmail.com).

  5. Work cooperatively with other staff. Train new staff regarding appropriate expectations and licensing standards according to your classroom, to ensure highest quality of care for children.

  6. Keep and encourage open communication between teachers and other staff throughout the building.

  7. Develop a portfolio for each child with individual assessments, goals, and milestones to share at parent/teacher conferences. Attend evening Parent/Teacher conferences.

  8. Become familiar with the Strengthening Families framework and engage in behaviors that support the families of our enrolled children.

  9. You may be requested to attend an evening or weekend event to support relationships with families.

Record Keeping:
  1. Write and compile individual assessments of each child’s development; complete daily inventories, child attendance, accident/incident reports as needed, medication forms, emergency forms, current allergies posted, and other related reports.

  2. Upload ASQ information as required by administration into the system, looking out for any red flags or developmental delays. Encourage parents to return them in a timely fashion.

  3. Document, follow, monitor, and help create action plans as required for individual children.

Environment:
  1. Maintain a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and accepting to children and families of all different cultures, religions, diversities and exceptionalities and strictly prohibit the use of time-outs, threatening the child, and negative reinforcement. Keep the classroom clean and conducive to learning.

  2. Maintain regulations of classroom in accordance with state guidelines and KQRIS recommendations.

  3. Maintain a positive classroom environment by keeping up our positive behavior support expectations, Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Team Player. This also requires a significant amount of role modeling these expectations in the classroom. Using PBS throughout the school in order to promote self-regulation, conflict resolution, problem solving and friendship skills building-wide.

  4. Perform basic housekeeping duties, which may include vacuuming, cleaning tables, disinfecting toys, and following proper diaper changing and toileting guidelines as set forth by the KDHE and KQRIS guidelines.

  5. Creating accommodations for the children with exceptionalities in the classroom, as necessary.

  6. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  1. Knowledge of child development theory and practice.

  2. Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.

  3. Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.

  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with families, children, and administration.

  5. Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.

  6. Ability to exercise control and maintain positive classroom discipline.

  7. Ability to self-motivate.

  8. Have some computer knowledge, e.g. be able to utilize software for lesson planning, newsletters, and ASQ data entry.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  1. Any degree in Early Childhood Education or child related degree, CDA, or one year’s experience in a licensed childcare center or an accredited elementary school AND meet qualifications for K.A.R. 28-4-429(c).

  2. Health Assessment and negative TB test on file.

  3. Trained in First Aid, CPR, Child Development, Communicable Disease, Signs and Symptoms of Child Abuse with Abusive Head Trauma, and Positive Behavior Support.

  4. Satisfactory KBI Criminal Background Check

  5. Copy of college transcript, if applicable

  6. Note: The Toddler lead teacher must also have 6 months teaching experience in a licensed childcare center enrolling infants and toddlers or a child development associate credential in infant/toddler care.

  7. Participate in Staff Orientation Training at time of employment.

Professional Development:
  1. Must maintain 20 clock hours of approved in-service training annually.

Summary: Assist Lead Teacher in providing an educationally enriching and stimulating environment where experiences are designed to develop self-esteem and positive self-image, social interaction, self-expression and communication skills, creative expressions, and intellectual growth.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Curriculum:

  1. Assist teacher in preparing materials for lessons.

  2. Assist teacher during lesson plan implementation.

  3. Provide a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.


Communication:

  1. Interact with parents, maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child’s family relationships.

  2. Communicate with children in a firm, loving, and consistent manner appropriate to the age of the child.

  3. Communicate openly and often with Management Team to ensure a successful relationship with center families.

  4. Work cooperatively with other staff to ensure highest quality of care for children.

  5. Attend all scheduled staff meetings.

  6. Assist lead teacher with classroom monthly newsletter if requested.

  7. You may be requested to attend an evening or weekend event to support relationships with families.

  8. You may be scheduled to staff Parents’ Night Out events on Saturday from 6-10 pm.


Record Keeping:

  1. Assist teacher with recording children’s attendance, daily reports, and accident/illness reports as needed.

  2. Perform weekly health and safety checklists for your assigned classroom assuring everything is kept up to standards.


Environment:

  1. Maintain safe and clean environment conducive to learning.

  2. Maintain regulations of classroom in accordance with state guidelines.

  3. Perform basic housekeeping duties, which may include vacuuming, cleaning tables, disinfecting toys, and following proper diaper changing and toileting guidelines as set forth by the Kansas State Board of Health.

  4. Follow and teach proper hand-washing procedures to children.

  5. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties.

  6. Follow and complete Closing Checklist of Duties.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.

  2. Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.

  3. Ability to exercise control and maintain positive classroom discipline.

  4. Ability to self-motivate.

  5. Ability to arrive in your scheduled classroom on time.

  6. Ability to be flexible when assigned various job-related duties.


Minimum Job Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 16 years of age or older.

  2. Must have a high school diploma or GED, or be currently enrolled in a high school program.

  3. Health Assessment and negative TB test on file.

  4. Trained in First Aid, Communicable Disease, & Signs and Symptoms of Child Abuse

  5. Satisfactory KBI Criminal Background Check

  6. Participate in Staff Orientation Training at time of employment.


Professional Development:

  1. Must maintain 20 clock hours of approved in-service training annually.
  2. If not already attained, attend 5 sessions of observation for not less than 2 ½ consecutive hours per observation in a licensed center.

Department: Kitchen

Location: Lawrence

Reports to: Management Team


Summary: Provide wholesome nutritious meals and snacks in accordance to Kansas State Health Department licensing regulations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Have knowledge of nutritional needs of children

  2. Understand quantity food preparation and service; avoiding waste and spoilage wherever possible.

  3. Practice sanitary methods of food handling and storage including wearing gloves when serving food.

  4. Be sensitive to individual and cultural food tastes in children.

  5. Work with Management Team in planning learning experiences for children relative to nutrition.

  6. Provide breakfast, snacks, and lunch following a posted menu and posting any changes to that menu.

  7. Keep all perishable and potentially hazardous foods continuously maintained at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or lower in the refrigerator or 10 degrees Fahrenheit or lower in the freezer, with 0 degrees Fahrenheit recommended.

  8. Assure that all perishable foods are returned to the kitchen and refrigerated, covered, and dated, as soon as possible to prevent any possible spoilage or waste.

  9. Keep a clearly visible accurate thermometer in each cold storage facility.

  10. Keep all foods stored in the refrigerator covered and labeled with the date served.

  11. Keep foods not requiring refrigeration stores at least six inches above the floor in clean, dry, well-ventilated storage area.

  12. Keep dry, bulk foods which are not in their original, unopened containers stored in metal, glass, or food-grade plastic containers with tight fitting covers, and labeled.

  13. Be knowledgeable in all matters regarding food allergies. Abide by “peanut free” facility policy. Be stringent in food handling procedures where it regards those children with allergies, and provide them with healthy and nutritious alternatives to the regular posted menu. Be knowledgeable in the Step It Up program.

  14. Transport food in covered and temperature controlled containers to classroom.

  15. Maintain hot foods at not less than 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

  16. Maintain cold foods at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or less.

  17. Keep garbage placed in covered containers that are inaccessible to children and remove from kitchen at least daily.

  18. Receive, inventory, and store any food delivery or paper goods delivery. Refuse any home canned food, food from dented, rusted, bulging, or leaking cans, or cans without labels.

  19. Use a three-compartment sink supplied with hot and cold running water and a drain board for washing, rinsing, sanitizing, and air-drying.

  20. Use commercial grade dishwasher daily.

  21. Keep kitchen clean and in good condition.

  22. Develop and/or maintain and adhere to kitchen budget.

  23. Be flexible to the needs of the center by covering classrooms or performing other work related duties when needed.

  24. Plan and prepare menu.

  25. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years or older

  2. Must have a high school diploma or GED

  3. Health Assessment including negative TB test on file

  4. Satisfactory KBI Criminal Background Check

  5. Trained in First Aid, Communicable Disease, & Signs & Symptoms of Child Abuse.

  6. Participate in Staff Orientation Training at time of employment.

  7. If also in the classroom, must meet all requirements of an Assistant Teacher as well.


Professional Development: Must attend appropriate professional development as decided with Program Director.
